Winnipeg Folk Fest Interview & Performance: Two Crows for Comfort

The folk/country duo chat about their beginnings and tour life, and performs "Frankenstein's Waltz"

Two Crows for Comfort are a Manitoba folk duo (with roots and country leanings) who spend a good chunk of their year touring around North America with their dog in tow. The incredible harmonies and storytelling from this real-life couple are up there with some of the best duos making their style of music anywhere on the planet. (Full disclosure: I listen to their music all the time.)

Making their second full festival appearance at their hometown Winnipeg Folk Festival this past July was a treat for both them and festivalgoers (including lots of their family and friends). Erin and Cory were busy all weekend with multiple workshops and their own feature concert, but were kind enough to make time for us after Saturday morning's Manitoba workshop (featuring all home-grown artists) where they shared the stage with the likes of Fred Penner, Begonia, and Slow Spirit (and even had the legendary Penner join them on harmonica).

We nestled into a corner of the forest surrounding the festival grounds at Birds Hill Park Provincial Park and chatted about their history as a duo, their experiences at the Winnipeg Folk Festival over the years (including starting in the Young Performers Program), and their life on tour. Then they treated us to an exclusive performance of "Frankenstein's Waltz" about their dog, joined by North Carolina's Luke Sharp on harmonica.
