Interview: Comedian Sugar Sammy gives us an update on his past year, and where things are headed

Last year, I had the opportunity to sit down with stand-up comedian Sugar Sammy before a string of shows at Rumors Comedy Club in Winnipeg. He was touring the country promoting his debut CD, Down with the Brown.
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards may be taking place tonight -- with the likes of Lil Wayne, Coldplay, Sara Bareilles, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, and Radiohead all raking in multiple nominations -- but we here at ShowbizMonkeys.com look at music a little differently.
The North American* Genius Monkey Comedy Award is given to a comedian -- sketch, stand-up, and/or improv -- who is on their way up. It's not necessarily given to the absolute funniest comedian working today, as it's not an award for someone who is incredibly well-known to the general public.

One day a couple summers back, I was checking my e-mail as I do countless times per day, when I came across an interesting e-mail from one of my entertainment industry contacts. It was an invitation to visit the set of a major Hollywood motion picture shooting in Vancouver, then titled A Tale of Two Sisters.

If you have not yet picked up Mr. Hodgman's book, More Information Than You Require, I highly recommend you do so now.
It's hard to believe that this is my fifth year covering the Vancouver International Film Festival as a member of the press.
The Hotel Café, for those unaware, is a club in L.A. that started as a small coffee shop and has grown into one of the premiere launching grounds for singer-songwriters.

Let's face it, being a writer for a fairly high profile entertainment and movie website can be both stressful and fun. The fun comes with the perks of seeing movies early and for free, and getting piles of promotional swag. Theatrical one sheets, free DVDs, free t-shirts -- you name it, I get it.
