The Kids in the Hall a high school reunion

The Kids in the Hall released a new season and it's caused me to reflect on my relationship with comedy. Comedy is defined by moments: moments of laughter, moments of pain, moments of import. SNL was one of my earliest relationships. The show started a year after I was born and I started watching it way too early.

The most interesting part of any TV series is the second season. The show runners know what they like, what they don't, what works, what they can add, what the audience loves, and what they can make bigger. The voice is now stronger and more focused. A shot gun blast becomes a laser.

Don't get me wrong, the shot gun blast is fun.

This year's SheDot Festival ("Toronto's Festival of Funny Women") runs from May 4-7 and features stand-up, sketch, and improv shows; workshops; and industry panels. Now in its fourth year, it has grown from an essentially local Toronto festival to one featuring a majority of its performers from across North America.

Winnipeg Comedy Fest Interview: Tim Gray & Matt Nightingale, stand-up comics and members of the sketch troupe HUNKS

Tim Gray and Matt Nightingale are veterans of the Winnipeg stand-up comedy scene, and this year they're both a part of the local contingent at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Besides their accomplishments as stand-up comics (Gray's first comedy album comes out this June, while Nightingale is a regular host at Rumor's Comedy Club), they're also members of the sketch troupe HUNKS.
