Review: 10 Cloverfield Lane

Posted by: Jay Caption  •  March 10, 2016 @ 11:21pm

As a fan of science fiction films, I often feel that originality within the movie industry can be at a disappointing low. Whether we are presented with remake after remake, or ideas that just seem so far fetched that they almost belong in the comedy category of our Netflix account, science fiction pictures can at times be tough to pass off as great films.

Walkey Talk: It's Not Binary. Films Can Be Popular AND Ambitious

Posted by: Mike Walkey  •  January 3, 2016 @ 1:50pm

Part One: Ambition

I hate writing traditional movie reviews. I hate having to express myself within the confines of a structured checklist. Here's the plot summary. The acting was strong. The writing was confident. The sets were pretty. The music was loud.

Worst of all is having to rate films though some kind of metric: numbers, letters, stars, thumbs, tomatoes, etc.

Fringe: An Enemy of Fate

Posted by: Andrew Burns  •  January 26, 2013 @ 6:46pm

Not to be melodramatic but all good things must come to an end. That's right Fringe fans this is the end of mine, and maybe yours, favourite sci-fi series.

Alcatraz: Pilot

Posted by: Andrew Burns  •  January 17, 2012 @ 1:05am

"On March 21st 1963 Alcatraz was officially closed due to rising costs and decrepit facilities. All the prisoners were transferred off the island... only that's not what happened. Not at all." – Emerson Hauser

Those are the ominous opening words spoken by actor Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) as Hauser introducing this new series on FOX, Alcatraz.

Posted by: Andrew Burns  •  September 30, 2011 @ 8:53pm

With their sophomore episode ("Ghosts") under their belt, Person of Interest still begs the question: is the series another procedural or a smart drama with an endgame? Jim Caviezel tries a familiar CBS style approach early on with the delivery of some of his lines.

Person of Interest: Pilot

Ben Linus is off the island and is training the second coming of Jesus to be New York's version of Batman. I could either be going to Purgatory, Hell, or Arkham for that opening sentence. Review: Super 8

Even in 8mm those bursts of light follow J.J. Abrams from project to project. Don't attempt to wipe or adjust your camera lens because these camera flares are normal for an Abrams flick.

Posted by: Andrew Burns  •  October 2, 2010 @ 6:20pm

Fringe is back folks ...again. With the story taking place back in our universe (or prime universe), "The Box" still has that season premiere feel to it.

Like last week's episode, "Olivia", this episode takes place a couple of weeks after the season 2 finale.

Posted by: Paul Little  •  March 7, 2010 @ 3:20am

Tonight the film world came together to celebrate the best in motion pictures with the 82nd Academy Awards. We love the Oscars here at ShowbizMonkeys.com -- the movie stars, the spectacle, the whole thing -- but we also like picking our own favourites in movies. Since this site began under our old name in 2001, we've been choosing our own top movies of the year.
