Jeremy Dobski is a Toronto-based comedian, originally from Montreal, who this past February released his special Love Language on YouTube. Recorded at his home club The Corner Comedy Club in Toronto, his 9 to 5 is teaching children how to do stand up comedy. Now, you may think a nice chap who teaches comedy to kids would produce a milquetoast special, but you'd be wrong.
A punchy comedian, his special is a tight 49 minutes of personal insights, funny observations, and the perspective that a person who spends a lot of time thinking about how to make things funny would come to. We have funny takes on baldness, heroin, and condo culture in Toronto. We even get his take on cancel culture that is actually funny and not cringe-inducing (seriously, that's rare in comedy right now).
In amongst the cracks about astrology and rimming there's some great observations about body shaming, distorted justice systems, and how for many of us we kind of miss the quiet of 2020. But despite the observations that may walk a line between insightful and indulgent, it never actually falls on the indulgent side and instead remains consistently funny, even when discussing how to best utilize the Black-Eyed Peas discography.
A touring comedian who's opened for Jason Alexander, Angelo Tsarouchas, and Pete Johann son, Jeremy can be found on Instagram. More importantly, you can catch his special right now on YouTube.
I give this special 4 bald guys out of 5.
