TV Rants & Raves: Breaking Bad

Posted by: Tony Hinds  •  August 4, 2012 @ 4:16pm

One of Breaking Bad's most unsettling moments takes place in the third episode of season five. Skyler (Anna Gunn) lies in bed. The sounds of nearby gunshots are audible. She goes to the living room, where she finds her husband Walter (Bryan Cranston) and their disabled son Walt Junior (RJ Mitte) laughing gleefully as they watch Brian De Palma's Scarface on TV.

Walkey Talk: The Church of Friday Night Lights

Posted by: Mike Walkey  •  June 17, 2012 @ 7:10pm

The calendar says June and for the most part the signs are all here: I've cracked out my air conditioner, I've witnessed the crowning of this year's Stanley Cup Champion, and I just completed the half marathon I run annually on Father's Day. But there is one thing that is missing this year from my routine of the previous few summers.

TV Rants & Raves: Game of Thrones VS. The Wire - "The King Stay The King"

Posted by: Tony Hinds  •  May 27, 2012 @ 3:15pm

I've heard many people say things like "Game of Thrones is the cooler/ better/ non-lame/ whatever version of Lord of the Rings." Their slightly inarticulate implication being that Thrones is a vastly superior take on the old medieval fantasy genre. I totally agree. But really, it is so much more than that.

Underground & Overseas: Holler at Me- An Ode to 'The Heart She Holler'

Posted by: Tony Hinds  •  May 21, 2012 @ 3:59pm

This could be a tough sell. Many of the things that I love about The Heart She Holler will inevitably be the same things that turn off more conservative viewers from actually watching it. Its virtues will become its faults. One man's comedic treasure is another man's (probably a much older and prudish) trash.

TV Rants & Raves: Comedy Round-Up 2012

Posted by: Tony Hinds  •  May 11, 2012 @ 11:49am

The hour long drama has entered its golden age in the past decade, giving us some of the best TV since the medium's inception. Landmark shows like Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones take their viewers beyond anything television (and in some cases even cinema... *cough* The Wire) have ever before accomplished.

Underground & Overseas: Game of Thrones

Posted by: Cameron McLeod  •  May 4, 2012 @ 2:00pm

Although it's already fairly entrenched as a part of popular culture (thus technically not "underground"), and is also an HBO show (so it's not "overseas"), I still feel this is as good a place as any to post an article explaining the reasons everyone needs to begin watching Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones (based off George R.R.

TV Rants & Raves: Twenty Five in FOX Years

Posted by: Tony Hinds  •  April 27, 2012 @ 6:38am

Much like my previous piece, 'They Shoot Simpsons, Don't They?', I must also preface this manifesto by admitting that throughout my life I have spent countless hours watching Fox TV and have genuinely enjoyed some of their fine programming. God forbid I come across like a 'hater'.

Posted by: Paul Little  •  April 14, 2012 @ 9:23am

Very few names are as revered in the world of comedy as David Steinberg. But when you've amassed the resume that he has over the last 45 years in television, it's hard to find many people to compare him to.

Winnipeg Comedy Fest Interview: Actor, writer, and host extraordinaire Alan Thicke

Posted by: Paul Little  •  April 12, 2012 @ 3:32pm

Alan Thicke has been enjoying a career resurgence over the last few years, appearing as a womanizing failed actor on CBC's jPod, making appearances as a version of himself on How I Met Your Mother, and popping up in roles in comedy films such as The Goods. He's even in the process of filming a new pilot for Showtime.
