In this long-running and popular feature, film buff Mike Walkey gives us his often-personal perspective on some of the day's biggest stories in film and television.
Glory days. The best years of your lives. Yeah, they usually are a daze.
When I was a kid, I thought high school was going to be like Grease, and college would be like Animal House. Boy was I wrong! With all due respect, I'm sure many people had some raunchy memories of their University days.
PERFECTION
It's the beginning of a new year and a fresh start for everyone. Time to be perfect.
I'm a perfectionist. I hate making mistakes. When I was young I somehow got it into my head that the best way to not make a mistake is to not even try. I've missed out on a lot of opportunities because of that mindset.
The child actor is a pretty sweet gig, let's face it. You get paid lots of money to play make believe. It certainly beats flipping burgers. But making the transition from young adolescent to adult is where the real challenge lies. It's difficult for young actors to be taken seriously in mature roles when the public is used to seeing them in children's fluff.
MAN CHRISTMAS *
It's that time of year that all men love: aimlessly wandering around a parking lot looking for a space, standing in line for hours between an old lady and a screaming baby, being ripped off by a jewellery salesperson... and this usually all occurs on December 23!

It's a docu–drama about computer programming. It's a morality play, a coming of age story, and a courtroom drama. All of which plays out like a suspenseful psychological thriller.
Is it the best movie of the year? Could be. But it is definitely the most important movie of the year.
Why? Because it is us. It is now.
Summertime is traditionally not the greatest time of year for television. Every once in a while a surprise summer sensation sneaks under the radar and completely enthralls the public (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Survivor).
The big screen releases of The A Team and The Karate Kid has everyone all giddy for 1980s nostalgia. Critics always get upset over studios' unapologetic insistence of remaking classic films, and with good reason. Nothing screams cash grab more than a remake. Aside from dating myself, remaking the 1984 film The Karate Kid has other personal effects on me.
The world of entertainment can be a crazy and complicated affair. Topic after topic, discussion after discussion. With so much information out there these days, how do you know who to trust? Who's got the inside track? Whose opinion is the right one? That is where I come into play.
